This entry is about Mike Huckabee's latest foot in mouth statement.
Atheists and Agnostics LOCK THE DOORS!, HIDE YOUR CHILDREN! Our favorite Baptist minister Mike Huckabee pulled a Pat Robertson this week when he expressed his view on the constitution and god's word.....together..as one. If Bush's classic statements about how apparently god told him to invade Iraq wasn't enough for you, Huckabee followed suit by saying he wants fundemental change to the constitution. But get this, he wants to change it so it can be in god's standards. Wow, I thought I heard everything coming from the right but this could be the icing on the conservative cake. So let me try to understand this. He wants to take the most sacred document in our country's history and "soup" it up so it will be A-OK in the eyes of god?
I thought our founding fathers created this thing called "Freedom Of Religion" so that people could choose to worship god, and for those who don't believe have a choice not to worship. Thomas Jefferson was proud to have church services held in the courthouses, and yes our founding fathers prayed before meetings but they also knew the importance of seperating religious agenda and ideology from government issues on the very fact that it would cause a divide. What changed?
You know things like this really make you wonder what type of people should really be running for president. Why do we care about the things we look for in a candidate that have nothing to do with real issues. Why would Mike Huckabee want to transform the constitution into this religious scroll for which his theocratic rule could be operated. For those who truly believe what the "Huck" is shoving out his mouth I suggest you really think about what your believing. His comments were almost as bad as the Islamo-Fascists who have a vision for a religious Caliphate. It's funny how these GOP candidates and other conservatives in Washington sometimes sound like the very terrorists and Islamic-extremists they vowed to destroy. Or as Huckabee put it in the recent SC debate:"The last thing the terrorists will see are the gates of hell" Good one Mike. Next you'll be saying Atheists, Muslims, and other people of non-religion and non-Christian faith be captured and tagged like sealions because they don't fall under your theorcratic guildelines. I'm sorry but as a Christian myself I reject Mike Huckabee's very statements. No matter how out of context half the country took them. I want a president with a mind of his or her own. I don't want a president that caters to liberals or the ACLU. I don't want a president that would notify the Christian Coalition before his own administration or the Congress even. No matter how inept and full of shit that Congress may be.
I don't want a president that would cater to GLAAD and not to the rest of the country, and I don't want a president that has more interest in giving his country club buddies and big corporations a break before the average Joe american. Fnally I do not want my president to feel like he or she has to explain their religion or whether they have a relationship with god to being with. The president should be elected based on how well that person can effectively get the job done. The issues people, they are what should matter. Too bad they don't. We often focus on the wrong things in this country.
