America. Her faults, her setbacks, her joy, her promise
Where is America? is she hiding somewhere? Behind bogus wars and government spending? Behind broken systems and bickering politicians? America is hiding behind those who refuse to stand up for her. After so much good she's done in the world and in her own backyard, America has no one looking out for her. She once shined with grace and nobility as a symbol of hope and strength through intellectual connection with other countries and a mighty sword in which she used as a last resort. America was the blanket for all those shivering with oppression, uncertainty, and fear, America covered them and warmed their souls and their minds. A new idea for which we all could flourish and advance ourselves toward one common goal. I'm no old timer rocking back in my chair thinking about the glory days of yester year. I'm not youngster caught in a trend of rebellion and disdian for my country because my elected leaders let me down. We have lost faith in America. We blame her for the horrors in the world and we praise her when she supports our agenda. We never seem to support her when she's down. Instead we rob her of her dignity and ship it over to China and Saudi Arabia.
We strip away her guards and flood her body with illegal immigrants and brutal gangs and druglords. We have failed her. Each and every last one of us. We've been focus on our agends and we've ended up with fighting in Washington, culture wars between two narrow minded groups whose ideology poisons and blankets independent thought and expression. We've spent America's flesh to the brink and we've spilled her blood on foreign soil all in the name of our own selfish and materialistic movement. America, where one is more likely to be praised for being a drug addict entertainer than a soldier fighting a war that seems to know no end.
My America comes from my ability and cause. My ability to gather people my age, younger, and older within my community and reach out to them so we can make society in America the basis for which a functioning America can exist. I am too young to run for office and "Change" might be the buzz word but I am not speaking of change or hope. I come talking on the terms of unity and nobility. I remember when America was the face of those two words. Something that could be admired and looked upon as a nation of leaders and people of integrity. Though we've all lost our ways we can get back to that simple and unified idea of America.
Barack Obama speaks of change and hope. While his message is that of a populist rhetoric I applaud him. Fact is that none of the Democrats or Republicans can make this country any better than what they have done to it. They ravaged it and all its worth. Republicans give our jobs away to the lowest bidder in China and in the middle east. Then they turn around and wave the so called sword of "democracy" at brutal dictators they armed and financed. Democrats raise taxes to the collar and expect government to be your babysitter and your caretaker. They want everything universal instead of taking on the very interest groups and big business that enslave both sides. Overall Democrats and Republicans sway from the issues in hopes of winning this election with personality and a smile rather than substance and honesty.
I want a president that will restore American jobs. I want a president that will bring our troops home and show them the welcome they truly deserve. I want a president that will engage the big business mafia bosses that clamp down on political process and influence law making. I want a president that will stand by the constitution as a document of freedoms and god given rights. Not just as a shield to hide behind when they make unjust and bias laws that steal our civil liberties. I don't want my government spying on me, I don't want them to control my temperature. I don't want them to bail me out everytime I get into a jam. I'm 20 years old, I don't need a babysitter. Democrats want bigger government and Republicans want to squeeze the middle class until they show up on the endangered spieces list.
I want my society to be independent and full of new ideas. Not old ones that are constantly marketed by conservatives and liberals whose only chances of relevancy are to influence political races and government process. Perhaps they should team up with big corporations and really paint the town red.
Well, heres to staying optimistic. About my country, the restoration of its morality, integrity, and honesty. And all the things that made this country great......once upon a time.
